LE MAT PILOTE
A Heritage Preservation Project
Perched on a rocky promontory where the Laïta meets the Atlantic, the Mat Pilote has stood since 1847—white stone against black cliff, surrounded by blue waters on three sides. Built as a lifesaving semaphore station inspired by French Enlightenment ingenuity, it once guided ships safely through the treacherous sands of the Pouldu bar. Today it is one of the last intact mat-pilotes in France, still preserving its original pilots’ quarters.
We are restoring this remarkable place—our childhood home, our grandparents’ house—with a simple premise: its future will be secured by those who stay here. Guests will sustain its conservation, ensuring that this rare maritime monument endures for generations.
Support the restoration. Experience the place. Help preserve one of France’s last surviving mat-pilotes.
